Marine Drive PDF Print E-mail
ImageThe picturesque Marine Drive is along Mumbai\'s southern coastline, linking the sterile skyscrapers of the business hub in Nariman Point to the leafy slopes of Malabar Hill at the other end. The 'Queen's Necklace', as it is also called, emerged as a magnificent avenue in 1940 and has seen the changing of its glittering streetlights from 'diamonds' (white light) to 'Gold' (yellow lights).

Along the shoreline are hundreds of tetrapods, ungainly concrete structures which check the fury of the choppy tides during monsoon. The road is one of the busiest in Bombay with vehicular traffic zipping continuously through out the day. The two mile stretch along this windswept promenade by the sea is a almost a thoroughfare, what with coconut sellers, peanut vendors, balloon and cotton candy sellers, courting couples, children, people walking(with and without their dog) in the mornings and evenings, bottom pinchers, tourists and curious bystanders.
