![]() Kanheri Caves The Kanheri caves date back to the 2nd Century AD and are carved into the sides of the valleys. There are some hundred odd caves, built by nomadic Buddhist monks, the largest of which feature two huge representations of the Buddha. The most elaborate is the Great Chaitya Cave (number three). ![]() Kanheri Caves The monks also constructed an elaborate drainage system to channel excess water during the monsoon. This water eventually finds its way into the neigbouring Vihar, Tulsi and Powai lakes which in turn are responsible for much of Bombay's water supply. The Park is open to visitors between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all days except Mondays. |
