| Farhan Mujib is a contemporary artist who works with collages, combining a fine sense of aesthetics with colour. Based on the visual culture of his hometown, Aligarh, a stylised synthesis of the various strands of Awadh culture, the cut-and-paste art is thematic, consisting mainly of interiors. His paper collages are meticulously organised, his constructions highly structured and dynamic in terms of colour and texture, deeply influenced by his interest in music, literature, gardening and cooking. The format of his collages is reminiscent of Indian miniatures in terms of the intricate, intimate and symbolic details that he employs and the illusion of architectural space he creates, despite his purely two-dimensional language. |
