Ashok is an "Artist of Destiny ", a product of the sub-concious .

Nothing he has ever done, has ever been done conciously . Born into a family of academicians, he always veered towards the arts. His father wanted him to study medicine, but a happy compromise was reached by Ashok getting his M.Com and working as a banker for a very, very, short time .

Destiny intervened. He saw a beautiful girl and asked to take her photograph. She agreed instantly and asked when, Ashok was stumped, as he did not even have a camera! Not one to waste an opportunity, he quickly borrowed one, and read up manuals and started taking photographs.

Always wanting to excel, Ashok started learning and reading more about photography, and went on to do a course at the J J School of Arts on photography. After initially being refused admission he impressed the Dean sufficiently to get a special seat. And then topping the class, surprising himself more than the Dean who had prophetically said that" Ashok was a man who would go high places ". A valuable lesson learnt was " it is the eye that matters , not the camera"

At that time, photography was not a profession which gave you any money .So Ashok opened a professional photographers processing lab. This helped him make ends meet, as well as a great facility to play with his own photo processing and hone his dark room techniques.

Destiny intervened again when Ashok caught the eye of some major publications whose editors gave him a free hand to shoot and print as he pleased . Some very imaginative shots and lay -outs were a result of that time. And from then on , there was no looking back , success and fame followed Ashok faithfully .

But all along , Ashok was doing some private work for his personal satisfaction . Photographs that were not shown , except to a priviliged few . Works that had the head of Kodak exclaim , "No work has ever been done like this anywhere " !

Ashok's works are distinctively different from any body else . But then he is an artist who is an absolute original. The time and thought taken to shoot and then compose the photographs gives you a pictures that are phenomenal .

In this , Ashok's first solo show , he has chosen 5 distinct inspirations.
1 Leanings to Surrealism
2 Doors and Windows
3 The Bench
4 Masks
5 Tribute to Yoga
Each one unique , each one different .

Closed on Sundays.
